Intel officially unveils a new Atom processor today, the Atom N470. The new Intel Atom processor will be from the Pine Trail line, which allows for lower power consumption and also has the graphics processing done on the same die as the CPU (but it isn’t much of an improvement). Although Intel does not yet announced the TDP in a press release today, the naming convention leads us to believe that the N470 will be a netbook-style processor versus the more power-hungry processors for nettops.

Intel Atom N470 processor will have a clock speed of 1.83GHz and 512 KB L2 cache. It is optimized for DDR-667 memory, which is pretty standard in netbooks these days. No other information on the new processor has been revealed yet.

This tip is how to use ichat for all of those who use both iChat and Facebook, and wished you could use Facebook chat from within iChat. As of fairly recently, it seems this is now possible, and easy to do.

Visit the Facebook Chat tour page, and then click on the Chat link to get the instructions. (You’ll need to be logged in to see that page.)

Alternatively, you can just follow the instructions right here:

In iChat, open Preferences, and go to the Accounts tab. Click the plus sign at the bottom of the window to add a new account.

Select Jabber Account from the Account Type drop-down menu.

Enter your_username@chat.facebook.com in the Account Name field, and enter your Facebook password in the Password field. Replace your_username with your Facebook username, obviously.

Click the triangle next to Server Options to reveal those settings. Enter chat.facebook.com in the Server field, and 5222 in the Port field. Make sure the Use SSL box is not checked.

Click Done.

You should now be able to chat with both your Facebook friends and your iChat buddies from within iChat. I can’t confirm that this works, as I don’t have a Facebook account. Friends with Facebook, however, have said it worked fine for them. Thanks to Mac OS X Hints reader Geobunny for pointing out the Facebook iChat page.

Rinspeed, the custom carmaker has a history of bring cars extravagant design concept for Geneva auto show. Earlier efforts to include transparent eXasis, the submersible sQuba, and the mutable iChange. But this year Rinspeed announced something almost pedestrian, an electric city car.

The UC, which means for Urban Commuter, is a custom built electric car. From the outside, it looks like form to other two seat city cars. Its performance statistics are not particularly impressive either, with a top speed of 75 mph, torque at 96 pound-feet, and a range of only 65 miles.

But the car is only part of a larger transportation plan. It was designed to be easily loaded on special wagons for long trips. The typical European would drive a few miles, it would take to get to the nearest rail station, sit in the restaurant car while the train crosses a few countries, then drive off the train and go about business. Given the U.S. rail infrastructure, the UC would be a more difficult proposition here.

Inside, the UC shows more radical Rinspeed design, for example avoiding a steering wheel for a joystick controller. Rinspeed, known problems with a joystick to drive a car, designed this one with a special force feedback system. The car delivers feedback to the joystick, such as resistance to the sharp turns of the steering wheel that mimics the resistance of the actual tires on the road.

Toshiba has set two new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2010, and as expected they follow on from their TG01 Snapdragon-based Windows Mobile handset. Toshiba TG02 is the most obvious successor, a 9.99mm thick handset with a large 4.1-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen and a 1GHz processor.
